I use a multisensory approach. Every child is different. I have had a great deal of success using both PROMPT cues along with speech sound hand cues. I start at the level the child can produce-some at the vowel level, some CV, some reduplicative cvcv and work our way through the hierarchy (I use Nancy Kaufman's hierarchy. I use multiple trials but always make it fun and engaging.
Most parents sit in on our sessions. I, first demonstrate with the child, and then have the parent do the same. We use multiple trials and very motivating activities. I always give the parents an activity to continue the same skills in our session, at their home. We want to make therapy as functional as possible.
I have used pictures and photos in order to utilize pointing along with productions such as ma-mama, mommy, etc. as well as basic signs in conjunction with sounds and words/word approximations.
