Looking at the whole child in assessment, I take into account their functional needs, their tolerance, their personality, etc., and combine that with a look at their sound inventory, syllable and word structure, oral motor movement skills and language skills. In therapy, I integrate different therapy techniques: hand signs or other AAC to help build a young child’s communication success and confidence. I also can provide PROMPT cues, hand cueing by me for sound placement, TalkTools OPT (Oral Placement Therapy) if needed for oral sensory and tactile feedback, lots of visual cues, lots of movement practice for motor learning and hopefully, enough fun to keep the child engaged and motivated.
