A multi sensory motor approach is used, with the best combination of modalities employed for optimal functional change for each child. All areas of function for speech and language are assessed and treated as determined by a complete evaluation. A variety of approaches are combined to maximize the outcome for each child.
Parents attend each session in the room with the me and the child. The parent provides specific auditory, visual and tactile cues during the session as guided by me. The parents video the sessions for their use at home. The parents receive a written summary of each session with the goal attainment for that session, a description of each activity during the session and a description of the home focus for that week.
Signing and informal gestures for children under 2, as most families have typically begun using this system before seeking professional assistance. I work as a team with SLP's whose skill with AAC exceeds mine for those children who need a more formal system.
