I use a variety of approaches to treating a child with CAS depending on their severity and presentation. Structure of therapy is based on the principles of motor learning. Examples of approaches incorporated include Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing and Multi-sensory Therapy Approach.
I utilize a family centered therapy approach where the family is an integral part of the therapy process. The family helps to identify goals and/or targets that are most functional. I also educate and train families to carryover therapy activities/practice to the home environment for generalization. Families, including siblings, are incorporated into therapy activities as appropriate and encouraged to observe each session.
I incorporate low and high tech AAC into therapy to help support overall communication, verbal speech, language development and literacy in combination with other motor-speech based therapy strategies.
