As a highly experienced PROMPT Certified Clinician, I provide assessment and treatment based on both the PROMPT System of Therapy and Principles of Motor Learning. Critical components of my work are differential diagnosis, clear delineation of goals and objectives, and treatment planning based on motor speech practice embedded in motivating, socially and academically relevant activities.
I work closely with caregivers and related professionals to form a team, optimizing consistency of treatment and generalization of treatment goals across varied settings. Reaching beyond the therapy setting, I do my best to empower parents/caregivers by providing educational and networking opportunities and sharing resources for advocacy.
For children with severe communication disorders, my work often includes AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) to promote functional communication skills. While maintaining my focus on facilitating speech production and improved speech intelligibility, I support the appropriate use of AAC (typically sign language and picture communication systems) to reduce frustration and increase opportunities for building language and social interaction skills.
